MY FAMILY'S MOVE FROM TENNESSEE TO ARKANSAS
|
Sometime after 1820 and before 1830, my
Great-great-great-great grandfather Jacob
Womack, and most of his children moved
into East Tennessee. Although records
show they lived in McMinn, Meigs and
Rhea counties, more often than not the
counties moved and they didnt. The area
they moved into and lived was supposedly
in the Big Spring/Spring Creek areas shown
on the map at the right.
Thomas P and Mary Little Womack were
my Third greats, and believed to have
lived in Meigs Co at the time of birth of
my 2nd Great, Samuel M Womack,
b. Jul 1, 1846. Samuel M married Mary Jane
Norman in Meigs Co, on or about Oct 5, 1862.
My Great Grandfather Thomas A Womack
was born presumable in Meigs Co on
Jul 27, 1863. William Clinton and Samuel M Jr
followed in 1866 and 1868 respectively.
Samuel M Sr was murdered, somewhere on
Spring Creek, on Jul 10, 1868. His widow and
children were living with his mother as of the
1870 Census.
Some old court documents establish Samuel M's
date of birth, i.e. "having reached his majority on
July 1, last," that document was dated before his
death in 1868. This indicates he was born Jul 1,
1846. Subsequent court documentation indicates
that William Clinton was in TX, and Thomas A
in AL. Samuel Jr in TN.

Thomas A, my Great grandfather, moved to
the area of Fackler, Jackson Co, AL sometime in the 1880-81 time frame. On June, 26, 1881, he
married Caroline Carrie Bullington, "at the home of her mother in Fackler." This area of AL was
one where numerous descendants of Thomas and Louvisa Rice Womack lived.
Prior to Dec 22, 1882, Thomas and Carrie moved to the Florence AL area, where my Grandfather
Samuel L was born Nov 14, 1884; his sister Minnie born there Dec 22, 1882. How long they stayed
there is cloudy because of the loss of the 1890 census data.
Again, numerous descendants of Thomas and Louvisa were in this area.
However, My 2nd Great grandmother Susannah Jenkins
Bullington was living with them. She died Apr 29, 1896 and is buried in the
Odd Fellows Cemetery, Northeast Corner, near McCrory AR. I have heard that they actually lived
in the Tip community or Deview community shown on map at left. On the 1900 Census, Woodruff Co, AR,
they lived in Cache Twp.

As of the 1910 Census, Thomas and Carrie were living in White Co, AR,
as were my Grand parents Samuel L and Sallie A Scarborough Womack. The community where they lived was
the Providence Community shown on the map here. And where my father Samuel Otis was born Nov 5,
1910.
Grandma Carrie died Jul 1929; Grandpa Sam Aug 1936, Grandpa Tom Dec 1941, and Grandma Sallie Feb 1965.
I was born on the family farm; my sister Carol, I think, was born in Searcy AR in Rodgers Hosp.
After graduation from high school, Carol moved to Little Rock where she worked and attended
business school. It was there she met and married her husband, James Ayer.
I stayed until graduation from high school and then I left for the Air Force in Aug 1959. Subsequent
military assignments led me to basic training in San Antonio, TX; technical school at San Angelo, tX,
first working assignment with an intelligence unit in Korea; then to another one in Germany, where I
met and married my first wife-Christel Erika Anthes. I was assigned back to San Angelo after Germany,
then to Little Rock AR, Udorn Thailand, Blytheville AR, and lastly to Williams AFB, AZ, where I
retired Jul 1 1984 with 24 years, 10 months and 21 days continuous active service.
My parents continued to live in White Co until May 1994; when my sister and I moved our parents
to SC where she could watch and take care of them. On Feb 27, 1998, my father died and was flown
back to AR for burial in the Providence Baptist Church Cemetery. My mother continues to live in SC.
As of now, no Womacks of my immediate family live in Arkansas; and, will probably never will again.
I have two first cousins of the same last name and myself. They live in Indiana. I now live in
Arizona and will continute to do so. See MY PLACE.
